The Time Traveler's Wife

As I mentioned before, I loved that book. Loooooooooved. Anyway, I heard they're making it into a movie. Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams will play Henry and Clare. I haven't really decided what I think about that. I'm excited for the movie, but nervous too. What if they wreck it?? Or at least not do it justice. That'll be disappointing. I think those actors might be alright. I didn't really have anyone in particular pegged for the roles. So yeah, they'll probably be okay. Not like when I heard Tom Hanks was playing Robert Langdon in the Da Vinci Code. TERRIBLE casting! I still haven't seen that.

Welcome me to the 21st century

Because I finally got a cell phone!!

It's about time, it seems everyone over the age of ten has one.  I would like to state for the record though, that I have had one before. In Scotland, I couldn't go anywhere without my Nokia. I kept it on silent in my apron while at work and would check for text messages every chance I got. It was an unhealthy addiction.

I have had my phone for less than 24 hours and I can already feel myself plummeting down that slippery slope once again! I have sent about a dozen text messages in as many minutes. Thankfully they're unlimited and free during the first month. They know they can suck me in!!! I want to call people on my cell, even though my regular phone is right beside me.

Oh well, this is very exciting anyway. I probably won't end up using it that much, and if I can keep my text addiction in check, then I should be okay. Hurrah for technology that everyone but me had years ago!

Eek! I just got my first wrong number, how fun!!

Amanda likes to...

I copied this from someone on Facebook.

Go to Google and type in quotation marks your
name and then "likes to" (ex. "Tom likes to"). Type in the first ten
things that come up and repost in your own note. Then tell us which one
is most like you:

1. Amanda likes to do it in her community.
2. Amanda likes to do it in the garden.
3. Amanda likes to draw, paint, write comic books, read Jhonen Vasquez comics, play with Marshall, and swim.
4. Amanda likes to work one-on-one with students to explain in detail how to solve their math problems.
5. Amanda likes to dance, and figure skate.
6. Amanda likes to sing, dance, and act.
7. Amanda likes to come to the library for books about plants and animals and to use the Internet.
8. Amanda likes to listen to 80's music.
9.
Amanda likes to get attention by raising her head out of the water,
with mouth open in a "smile" by wiggling her top lip, and using her
head to give a good splash.

10. Amanda likes to watch.

I
don't draw, paint, sing, dance, figure skate, read comics, do math
problems or read boring books about plants. I do enjoy 80s music, and
although #9 is referring to Amanda the Manatee, it
does sound like fun. No comment on #1, 2 or 10.

And I hate Marshall!

My date with Kurt

It's 5:30 pm, and I think my hangover is finally gone. Or as close as it's going to get.

In this state, I'll never be able to adequately convey how AWESOME Stars on Ice was. As it always is, of course. By the way, my hangover and Stars on Ice are completely unrelated. The show was a few days ago. Man, I really love it! The pairs are so exciting to watch with all their lifts and jumps and throws and crazy moves. And then there's the incomparable Kurt Browning. Everyone knows how much I love him. And obviously he is drawn to me as well, because for the second year in a row, he shook my hand! That's right, Kurt shook my hand!! WOOOOOO!!! After the show is finished all the skaters skate to the sides and shake a few hands. Each only does about 10 people, so really the odds of getting Kurt aren't very good. But hoorah! he skated to our section! TWO YEARS IN A ROW!!! I couldn't stop grinning all night. Or the next day at work. What a great night.

Facebook burnt my pizza!

As I mentioned, I've been sucked into this Facebook phenomenon and have wiled away hours on the thing. Well, tonight I made myself a pizza - a nice way to end Passover - and popped it in the oven. I headed upstairs to play on Facebook for the 10 - 12 minutes until it was ready.

I remembered about 45 minutes later.

But, not ready to accept defeat, I decided it could be salvaged! Besides, I'd used the last of the olives, and what's the point of a pizza sans olives?? Here is my photo journal of the events that transpired....

Just a bit overdone

just peel this top layer off like a skin graft

slap that salami on the new crust (okay, it's really pepperoni,
but I couldn't resist)

a sprinkling of fresh cheese to hide the mangled toppings

TEN minutes later....

Amanda, you've done it again!

Take that Facebook, you can't foil me!

*crickets chirping, tumbleweed blowing...*

A voice shouts out, echoing in the emptiness: "HELLO! Hello-ello-ello..."

I think one of the reasons I'm spending more time on Facebook than on here is because it's the ideal outlet for people with nothing to say. I really have nothing going on in my life to talk about, so the one line updates on Facebook are all I need. "Amanda is wasting time at work" "Amanda is going to have a glass of wine and watch tv". Not exactly prime blog fodder.

Amanda is going to plop in front of the tv like usual. Amanda hopes to have something interesting to say one of these days, but she isn't holding her breath.

Close enough

I only have ten minutes - scratch that - EIGHT minutes left before I can go home. I think I will do nothing until then. Besides, the smell of my Sharpie are making me woozy. WooooooooOOOOOOOooozy. But it was totally worth it as I crossed off many items on a long list. Very satisfying.

I'm looking forward to the long weekend. I wasn't initially planning to go anywhere on holiday this year, but maybe I will. I do get two weeks off, after all. No point in wasting them. I suppose I could just kick about Winnipeg, sleep in, etc etc. But maybe I should go somewhere. I kind of like that idea. But where? If I go byself, I think I'd want to go somewhere where I could visit someone. So there's Vancouver, or Edinburgh. Or probably a few other places. But with only 2 weeks, I don't want to go anywhere crazily expensive. Which rules out heading to China or NZ for a visit. Alas.

Oh, one minute left. Time to shut 'er down!!
