Fun plans and ugly bugs

I'm starting to get really excited for the end of the summer, and I've been trying to figure out my travel plans. Things finally seem to be coming together, at least a little bit. My sister and brother are going to fly over and Theran and I will meet them in Shanghai. Then we'll take about a month maybe to tour around the south of China. I've been reading my Lonely Planet and looking at pictures, and it looks so incredible!! EEEK!!! After the Southern China loop, we will go to Beijing where my siblings and I will take the Trans-Siberian railway all the way to Moscow. YAHOO!! I just dread all the details that have to be planned out - buying tickets, getting visas etc. I just want to get straight to the fun stuff!

I've also decided to start posting more pictures. Perhaps a picture of the day type thing. Although it won't be daily because I don't write daily. But that's not the point. So here's today's picture. All around us we hear the electric buzzing of the cicadas. I've never seen one, until yesterday. At least I'm assuming that's what this is. I was just casually looking out my window, watching the fruit and veggie sellers do their thing, when this giant insect flapped onto the screen, nearly giving me a heart attack.

Ewww... big bug

I know, that's TWO pictures... but I'm terribly indecisive and I liked both!

We\'ve got those here in the Midwest as well. When I was 13, I had to create a bug collection over the summer as a project for school. I found one of those on the road (dead) and I couldn\'t use a pin to stick him to the bug-board...I had to use a NAIL! Crazy things, they are.

bugs suck!!! Especially flying ones.I kid you not, in Mexico I was exposed to the most horrific bugs EVER. We had beatles, everywhere. Big shelled, heavy beatles. And you think Darwin would have weeded these asses out by now, but a number of them had wings too. Ya, I\'m sure you can imagine how well they flew around with these huge heavy shells on their back. They would lie around on their backs waving their legs in the air until they finally perished, were squished, or were kicked by someone passing to their right position again. Then there were the bobos. They came each night. They were smaller than mosquitos and would hatch each night and die again the next morning. This vicious cycle would repeat. They were harmless, expect for that they all travelled in thick clouds, so swallowing a good chunk of them was regular fair. In teh morning, they would be piled up HIGH along the windowsills, dead. UGH.Let\'s not even discuss the scorpions, or the big bloody cockroach that climbed out of teh toilet to say hi to me one night.I swear every bug in Mexico was also mutated to like 3-4 times it\'s Canadian/American size. I saw a moth once with a wing span of a foot ON EITHER SIDE OF IT\'S BODY. GAWD, I got the eebie jeebies just thinking about it.

i don\'t see what the problem is... seems you catch a bug each, and there\'s your airfare covered.and i can even do this while i\'m eating, damn i\'m hardly. But then again my job at home is to lift heavy things and deal with bugs...can i squish or lift anything for you manders? Bet i could bench-press that bug over my head before i kill it, then fix that leak in your roof with the wing.

Yeah but have you seen the big praying mantis like bugs there or the big harry spiders....now if I could find you a picture of the scary spider I would. Bugs in China are uber scary! I couldn\'t sleep some nights because I found one in my room before I\'d be off to bed :S
