I'm a puddle

A big drippy, slippy puddle. It is so hot here. I just checked the weather and at 5pm it's still 34 degrees. Oh, not so bad, you say. But with the humidity it feels like 40. Really, it even says so!

I'm exhausted right now. Theran and I went for a walk and ended up at the zoo. Got in for half price with our fake student cards, yay! Not the most exciting zoo, and in the heat, all the animals were just lying about like lumps. Oh well, it was still nice to do something different. There was a cable car that went up to the top of a big hill, so we decided to check it out. Figured we'd either get off at the top, or just keep going around and get off where we started. As we neared the top, we saw to our surprise that the cable car sloped down again and ended who knows where. We hadn't realised it when we got on, but this would be our exit. Oh well, we'd had enough zoo time. Got off and walked along a road that followed the coast. Walked all the way to XingHai Square (huge, pretty square) where we finally hailed a taxi home. Five hours and at least 10km of walking in the hot sun really made me tired.

Anyway, I keep meaning to mention the bbq we had the other night. Five of us foreign teachers went out for dinner the other night. There are lots of places where your table has it's own grill for you to bbq your food. It's delicious. This place also has a nice big patio for us to enjoy the weather. Of course our Chinese is far from perfect, but I think we managed pretty well. We ordered lamb skewers, chicken wings, beef skewers (which were one of the best things I've ever eaten), sweet potatoes and squid. We just made one itty bitty mistake. We thought that the squid came on skewers like the meat, so we ordered 10. But turns out they came on plates. The waitress cut it back to five, but we still ended up with mountains of squid. We had to drag over some extra chairs to put the food on because there wasn't enough room on the table! But it was a great dinner. And I love the whole process too, it really makes eating dinner an event.

Mmm.....tasty meat sticks.

the gang cooking our dinner.             too much squid (there were 2 other

Hey MandersYou wanted to know about the set up in Wanzhou. It was a sweet deal. I was contracted to work about 16 hours I believe it was...or maybe 20hours a week for 5000rmb however I only worked probably no more than 13 hours a week and got paid the full amount. My poor roommate got 1000 less than I did and worked more hours. I think this kind of pissed her off as I was the "lazy" teacher. However I was always the one heading off to strange villages at a moments notice because the headmaster requested it. I didn\'t mind because I got to see a lot of the countryside and a different China. Not that Wanzhou was that much different. I mean it was a village of 1 million and all. It was def more modernized than the surrounding villages but was still dark ages compared to Shanghai, Beijing and even Chongqing and Cheng-du. The villages were very poor and the students really welcomed me into their school. An awe-inspiring experience if you ask me. The roommate hated the last minute calls in the morning saying...your classes are cancelled we want you to go to a village and promote our school. I didn\'t mind the trips at all. It was a refreshing break from some of my spoiled students--and trust me these were the "rich" kids classes. All the familes were connected somehow so lots of "come to dinner with my parents" kind of gigs. I didn\'t mind being the monkey persay a small price to pay to be the "lazy" teacher. SO there you have it...my little adventure in Wanzhou in a small nut shell. As for you skipping on over the Harry Potter blog I should edit it to say "spoilers--you\'ve been warned" kind of thing I suppose!

It\'s been hot here the last two weeks too. It finally broke yesterday and gave us a break, making it only 36 with Humidex instead of the 42-44 we\'d been having. Ugh!That grill is a great idea for a restaurant! Wonder if we have any of those on the Canuck side of the planet..

Hmmm no shrimp on the barbi I see.......But I have to tell you that us Aussies dont really tend to put shrimps on the barbie. Apart from the fact that the human rights group for little people would get really annoyed about it....No just kidding LOLWe actually really put snags on the barbie. And not the sensitive new age kind just the plain old sausage kindLOLAm gonna go..... I hope these jokes make sense to everyone and not just an aussie otherwise everyone would just think that I am mad.LOL
