the final countdown

Not long now. Only 3 days left at the job....

And I'm such a keener too, I actually have over three days of banked time that I'm not going to use. How lame am I... working for free! It's just there's lots to do right now and I hate leaving things unfinished. As it is there's so much I'll still be in the middle of doing. Poop, how unsatisfying.

Roar.

What a busy day. This afternoon I went and saw Cirque du Soleil with my family. Weird but very cool. Man, those guys are buff!! I just sat there, jaw agape, awing at the strength and control they have as they held themselves up on one muscly arm, body twisting slowly through gravity defying motions. Neato.

As soon as that was over, Jennie and I hurried over to the Lion Dancing competition where we were volunteering. That was lots of fun. We just sold souvenirs and still got to watch the show. So impressive! I know that there are two people in the costume, but the way they move it just looks like an animal. And of course the fancy moves were very ooh and ahh worthy. They hop across these poles that are up to about 9 ft off the ground, with standing pads of no more than a foot in diametre. How the hell they jump and land on them beats me, especially with two people attached together like that. It's really very cool to see. I'll narrate a play by play for you: hop hop hop turn hop JUMP hop JUMP turn JUMP stand hop hop JUMP swoop. Ooooooooooooh! Whistles and applause from the audience.

I'm exhausted. Need sleep. I will narrate a play by play of me going to bed: Shuffle shuffle blink shuffle flop click sigh zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Non-news

I had a job interview today. I think it went quite well. I felt surprisingly relaxed, and I believe I spoke fairly eloquently too, which is a real change from the flustered, rambling nonsense that I usually spew forth. Yep, all in all it was none too bad. Of course, it's really a moot point because there's not actually a job being staffed at the moment. No no, this is just anticipatory, so that they'll have a list ready from which they can pluck candidates when positions eventually come up. One day, whenever that may be. Great, doesn't do me a hell of a lot of good now, now does it?

Ah, holidays

Holidays sure are grand. I can't believe it's been over 7 months since I've had one! My last mini-vacation was to Saskatchewan, but this time I went a bit further and came all the way to Vancouver. It's gorgeous here, with the mountains and ocean making for an always impressive vista. My old travel buddy Andrea and I came out to visit some friends for a few days - Tue night to Sun morning, not enough time!

Yesterday we did some shopping, then I hung out with Theran, which was nice. Today was a good touristy day, visiting the Capilano suspension bridge, a salmon hatchery, walking along the river, through the forest where trees dripped with moss and a few determined rays of sunshine broke through the foliage. We had a lovely greek lunch down at Lonsdale Quay, then meandered around the shops and shoreline at Deep Cove. Almost went kayaking, but they were all booked up. Maybe tomorrow! Now we're chilling out at their amazing Kitsilano apartment, about to indulge in some pina coladas before making the 5 minute walk down to the beach.

Yep, this is the life. I know I won't be ready to go back to work on Monday. But even these few days are such a revitalizing break from the monotony of my sedentary life. Getting on a plane, visiting a different city, the allure of exploring.... My feet are getting itchy again!

MC Manders

Tonight I did my first show as MC of the Chinese Pavilion at Folklorama. Yay! It was lots of fun, especially because I love dressing up in my beeea-utiful Chinese qipao. I was a bit nervous actually; I realised this was the first time I'd been on stage since one of those horrible jr high musical productions. But nobody there knows me. They don't know I hate public speaking (I agreed to mc in an effort to confront my fear). For all they know I thrive on it. I just have to pretend I enjoy 300 pairs of eyes staring at me. But my job wasn't difficult, just introducing the acts etc. I did fine. I didn't screw up any lines, didn't trip or fall down, my dress didn't spontaneously burst open... nope, nothing embarrassing whatsoever. I liked it. I'll be doing it again tomorrow and Thursday night. By that time I'll be a pro. They already told me I can MC again in the future. Right on, give it up for the hostess with the mostess: MC MANDERS loves the spotlight!

You know what I hate?

THESE NEW SPACES!!!

These Windows Live Spaces suck. They are sooooooo ugly. I liked my old format way better. I'm considering moving elsewhere. If I can be bothered.

Stupid MSN.
